The Power of Yes

Progressive rock band Yes has been making their own blend of symphonic classics-tinged art rock, highlighted by stellar musicianship, complex song structures and abstract lyrics for over 40 years. They have sold over 30 million records and maintain an obsessed and loyal fan base.

Yes is often characterized by the distinct, high-pitched lead vocals of frontman Jon Anderson and the clean, dazzling guitar licks of virtuosos including Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin. Add the stylistic keyboards of Rick Wakeman and Geoff Downes, plus the technical prowess of drummers including Bill Bruford and Alan White, include the trademark harmonized backup vocals, and the signature Yes sound emerges in all its glory of hit songs.

Beyond their enjoyable music, a young man who wants to stand apart from his peers with his own quintessential style would do well to remember the concept of Yes. When asked a question, respond with a crisp, distinctive “Yes, sir.” Let your lazy peers keep their mumbled “yeahs” and “uh-huhs.” Make an impression on teachers, coaches and parents and say “Yes!”

In their hit song “Tempus Fugit” the band sings, “You were keeping your best situation / An answer to yes!” Make your answer the same.
