Author and philosopher Jim Rohn spent his entire life analyzing success and identifying its essential traits. His description of 4 necessary qualities for success is encapsulated in “The Ant Philosophy.” Rohn advocated emulating the actions of an ant, in order to succeed.
ONE: Never Quit. Watch an ant travel toward a destination. No matter what intrudes or impedes his progress, the ant proceeds toward his target. The ant may change his course or alter his path but he never stops moving. He scales obstacles and goes around impasses regardless of the weather or any other environmental conditions around him. He does not wear a watch and is not concerned with time. The ant reaches his destination no matter how long it takes.
TWO: Prepare in Advance. An ant spends his summer gathering food for the upcoming winter. An ant prepares his winter home during the hottest days of summer. An ant is stocked and loaded and expects the unexpected. An ant never procrastinates or waits until the next hour to do what he can this hour.
THREE: Be ready to act. When spring brings thaw and the first warm day, an ant emerges and begins preparations for spring and summer. If it turns cold again, the ant returns to his winter home until winter dissipates. Regardless, he is prepared to act, at all times and in all situations.
FOUR: Always do your best. When an ant gathers food, he always gathers all he can carry. When an ant carries sticks or stones or other cargo, he loads to his maximum capacity. Ever see an ant take a break or nap when he is above ground? It never happens. Whatever an ant does, he does to his fullest potential. He does his best, no matter what.
If an ant can do these, so can you. Be great, like the ant.
