No, not the literal cardiac organ that pumps blood throughout a body. Rather, the metaphorical heart in which resides his courage, his perseverance, and his capacity to perform with maximum effort. When this heart is revealed, its characteristics are pumped throughout his life and yield positive results in everything he does.
Weights are ostensibly lifted with the body; they are first and foremost lifted in the heart. There exists a primal, latent spirit inside each young man’s proverbial heart that is unleashed and revealed in the strain of training with weights. The lifter reveals his heart when he attacks his lifts with malice and without fear. The lifter reveals his heart when he does not acknowledge discouragement at a failed lift. The lifter reveals his heart when he lifts instead of watching TV or playing video games. The lifter reveals his heart when he lifts years on end without ceasing in an effort to maximize his strength.
