Purpose

Those of you blessed with a son (or daughter) who plays youth sports may sometimes be confused as to the purpose of a team. Some believe that a team exists as a platform or showcase to highlight the greatness of their son. Some believe that a team exists in order to accrue victories, as defined by a scoreboard. Some believe that a team exists in order to teach a player about a sport.

Those who know the true purpose realize that a team is a vehicle that transports its members toward a greater life. A team is a classroom that teaches valuable life lessons using the particular skills of a sport. A team is a philosophical and social family that provides life-long membership.

Disparate individuals bond together to create a synergistic, cohesive whole capable of far more greatness than any singular part. Keep this purpose in mind when you join a team.
