Many youth sports teams focus on the objective of winning a game as measured by the scoreboard. There is a time and a place to emphasize such a victory; in many cases it is a misplaced and ill-advised obsession. The most important score is not the one reflected on the scoreboard - the real metric is your progress toward potential, both as an individual and as a team. Are you better today than you were yesterday? Are you closer to maximizing your gifts? Are you preparing and playing with maximum devotion? These are among the most important measures of greatness, not some arbitrary numbers on a scoreboard.
Being great and fulfilling your potential has only one direction. There is only one way. The only way to play a game, regardless of the score, is to play with maximum attention. With maximum focus. With maximum effort. With maximum mental and physical strength. With the maximum that you can offer, of everything you possess, in that moment.
