An athlete can think about what he’s going to do on the field of competition. He can study a play sheet, memorize plays and visualize their successful execution. A student can read his homework assignment and think about how the knowledge is applicable to his upcoming test. A son can think about being nice to his little brother, and learn about many ways to demonstrate his kindness. In fact, a young man can think about and hope and imagine and theorize and plan and rehearse and visualize what he intends to do during a given situation all he wants; but the crux of the matter depends upon how he acts when the moment of truth arrives.
“Praxis” is “the process by which a theory, lesson, skill, belief or behavior is enacted.” Praxis takes your knowledge or belief of how to perform a task into the realm of performing that task. It defines the bridge between thought and act. Praxis is the practical application of your knowledge to your actions, and describes the transition between your thought and your act. Move from thought, conjecture and theory to the fact of the act.
