Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers is a front-runner candidate to be named his league’s 2010 MVP. Hamilton is a rare hitting blend of power, precision, bat speed, and consistency, in addition to his fielding, throwing and base-running prowess. Although he was injured in the latter part of the regular season, he returned and helped his Rangers reach the World Series. Hamilton was ineffective at the plate, save a lone home run, and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Rangers in 5 games to capture a world championship.
The salient point being if Hamilton, considered by many as the best hitter in the league and one of the greatest all-around players in the game, can struggle, then any batter is susceptible to a slump.
Hamilton played on a 10-year-old elite travel team, when he was age 5. He was the best player in the league. Hamilton hit a 320 foot home run, when he was age 8. Hamilton was the #1 pick in baseball’s amateur draft, out of high school, and is considered one of the most gifted players of his generation. He is blessed with unbelievable talent; and he struggled to get a hit during the World Series. That’s baseball!
