Music has the ability to inspire, motivate and energize. A certain song, whether due to a compelling hook or an enlightening lyric or just a general vibe, may strike a chord in the listener and provide a call to action and a boost of adrenaline.

In 1981, the Brooklyn hard rock band Riot released Fire Down Under, an album their record company deemed “commercially unacceptable.” Fortunately for melodic metal music fans, another company signed the band and released the hard-edged, fast-tempo album to much acclaim.

Song 6, “Don’t Hold Back,” is representative of the band’s high-energy sound. As important, the song title and chorus is an apt description of how a successful man of greatness approaches life. Don’t hold back your effort, no matter what your task. Never suppress or conceal the real you. Release your full talents and energies, at all times and in all situations. Unleash and unbridle and unchain the full you and attack life, no matter the situation. “Don’t Hold Back” is a clarion call to an exciting, productive way of life, and an apt example of the power of music.
