Age and experience alone do not determine excellence. Never allow the fact that someone is older, or has been batting for a longer amount of time, influence a belief that you are inferior. Many times, “experience” means “repeats the same bad habits as before,” in such a way that the batter fails to improve or fails to make progress. Whereas, a young or inexperienced player who makes intentional and deliberate improvements and adjustments to his game is able to overcome his lack of time. Quality supersedes quantity, every time.
The San Francisco Giants know this fact. Since installing rookie catcher Buster Posey as their full-time signal-caller and dependable cleanup hitter, the team captured a divisional crown, won their league championship, and just emerged with their first World Series title since 1954. Posey may be young and inexperienced and may lack a certain gravitas of a veteran, but he more than surpasses his elders in terms of maturity, stability, and dependability.
A great hitter can be great, at any age. Set yourself free from the shackles of viewing inexperience and chronology as detriments. Youth is no impediment to success – like Posey, bust through the limited thinking that young age means low expectations. Greatness wins championships, at any age.
